Greys Artstone are delighted to have helped in the restoration of Seacroft Grange, a major land mark in Seacroft, Leeds. Once under threat this 17th Century building is now getting a new lease of life.

seacroft grangeThis is a great example of our commitment to product development for use with historic buildings, listed buildings and areas of conservation such as National Parks.
Seacroft is home to a number of historical buildings, which includes Seacroft Grange, also known as Tottie Hall.
This elegant building was built for the Tottie family in the 1600s and plays an important part in the history of the village and its heritage.
It then became the property of John Wilson and known as Seacroft Grange. The Wilson coat of arms was displayed in stone over the east door of the main building. The primary school was located here from 1941-1974 then the building was used as an Adult Education Centre.
The building was then left derelict until being taken over by Springfield Healthcare Group who have transformed Seacroft Grange into the care village it is now.
Leeds City Council gave permission to use Greys Artstone reproduction roofing slates for use to develop the project, as the slate range manufactured by the company Greys Artstone are hand crafted to give an authentic roofscape detailed moulding, a choice of colours.

Greys Artstone Factory - Holmfirth

All of our products have been designed in consultation with professional roofers and architects to achieve an easy to lay slating format, which will result in a coursed and diminishing stone slate roof.

Our stone ranges tend to be used mainly in Pennine areas for high quality builds, but the slate sells nationally through builders’ merchants, individuals renovating barns and farm houses. Our new Westmorland Green and Welsh Heather ranges of slate are proving particular popular in the Cumbria region as these slates suit this landscape.

As with our stone products, each individual slate is hand crafted using a mould taken from natural slate. The fine edge detail and textured surface combines with realistic colouration to create an attractive alternative to natural slate. The tensile strength that results from glass reinforced cement construction allows the slates to be cut easily, without cracking or breaking and offers a 33 per cent saving in weight compared with the natural equivalent.

Our slate is not only natural in appearance but also long lasting. “Because many of our competitors use traditional concrete, their slates aren’t protected from the elements, which will expose the aggregate. All the slates in our range have been successfully tested for durability, colour, strength, fire and freeze thaw.
